ABOUT
Serviceberry Studio is a Philadelphia-based nature-inspired studio named after the Serviceberry (Amelanchier spp.), a small yet ecologically and culturally significant native tree.
We create and care for small-to-mid-sized native plant gardens that make ecological stewardship accessible, engaging, and tangible. Through our work, we aim to cultivate deeper connection and reciprocity between humans and the rest of our natural world.
Our approach emphasizes native plants as well as manual and mechanical labor practices that minimize the use of gas-powered machinery and chemicals whenever possible.
Every native garden, no matter how small, collectively contributes to restoring biodiversity and habitat. We believe ecological stewardship can begin at any scale—including a Philadelphia yard—and that together these spaces create a growing mosaic of habitat across our communities.

Whether you're starting from scratch, looking for help installing a design you already have, or want help with ongoing stewardship of an established garden, we'll meet you where you are. We can provide our services individually or as a package, depending on your goals.
Design
After we meet and learn more about your goals, we create a custom garden design that centers native plants while considering seasonal interest and the specific conditions of your space, such as sun and soil. We take a naturalistic approach, aiming to design gardens that reflect relationships found in naturally-occurring plant communities. This not only supports native wildlife like pollinators and birds throughout the year, but also lowers maintenance needs.
Installation
To bring your garden design to life, we install your design with care, using sound planting practices that help plants establish and thrive.
To further support your garden’s success, we thoughtfully source our plants from quality local nurseries. Not only does local sourcing ensure the plants are already acclimated to Greater Philadelphia—helping them to thrive in their new home with you—but also supports the local economy.
Stewardship
Your garden is a living ecosystem. Ongoing stewardship supports your garden’s continued health and natural evolution while keeping it aligned with your goals.
We offer regular stewardship plans that consider your budget, your garden’s needs, and your preferred level of involvement. Monthly stewardship plans are our most popular option.
